Biography

​Rev. Dr. Monica Cross is a pastor, activist, a Transgender Scholar-Activist, and a public theologian dedicated to advocating for social justice. She serves as Director of Women’s Ministries, Housing, and Education in the Northern California Nevada Region of Disciples of Christ. She is a Quad Chair on the California Poor People’s Campaign, a National Call for a Moral Revival. Additionally, she is the President of the Oakland Peace Center. Dr. Cross is a Transformational Leader Fellow of the Sojourner Truth Leadership Circle of Auburn Seminary in New York City, NY, and the Founder of the Global Prayer Network.

Dr. Cross focuses on moral fusion politics, which brings together diverse groups to address poverty and systemic injustice through faith-based activism. She has authored two books: “Reflections of a Prophet Without Honor,” a collection of reflections from her life with God, and “Authenticity and Imagination in the Face of Oppression,” which explores issues of gender, race, religion, sexuality, and strategies for liberation. Dr. Cross earned her M.Div. and D.Min. from Pacific School of Religion and her MASC from Starr King School for the Ministry.

She also maintains a blog titled “The Transgender Scholar.” A native of Southern California, Monica currently resides in Richmond, California.
