This intermediate-level synchronous online course explores the Sacred Mother (s) in indigenous African and African diasporic spiritual traditions, with a focus on West and Central Africa, the Caribbean, and the Americas. Grounded in womanist and feminist epistemologies, students will engage emerging themes in Divine Feminine studies, including matriarchal societies, the Mother as Earth, inclusive economies, and environmental justice. Indigenous methodologies provide the foundation for examining the cultural frameworks rooted in these African and African diasporic spiritual traditions.
Students will be assessed through participation in Populi, the final project, and presentation. This course is open to all degree programs at the Starr King School for the Ministry.
