Words for the Weekend

Dear Ones,

As you may have heard, several rallies and counter-protests are scheduled for this weekend in the Bay Area by what we interpret to be right-wing nationalist groups and those who oppose their hateful views.

These white nationalist gatherings have a history of violence, including the use of a car to attack protestors in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this month.

We are an institution committed to educating to countering oppressions and building just and sustainable communities, and so I know many of you are planning to participate in protests that highlight our loving, nonviolent and inclusive values. I also know that some of you are survivors of trauma at the hands of similar groups, and will spend this time in other productive ways. Please know that the choice you make should be the right one for you, and that we here at the school will be holding you in loving prayer.

We urge you to take seriously the need for safety and for training in preparation for this weekend, should you choose to attend any of the actions.
