Taya Shere plays passionately in the realms of transformative ritual and embodied vocalization. Taya is co-founder of the Kohenet Hebrew Priestess Institute, training clergy in embodied, earth-honoring models of spiritual leadership. Her chant albums Wild Earth Shebrew, Halleluyah All Night and Torah Tantrika have been heralded as “cutting-edge mystic medicine music.” Taya is co-author of The Hebrew Priestess: Ancient and New Visions of Jewish Women’s Spiritual Leadership (Ben Yehuda Press 2015) and Siddur HaKohanot: A Hebrew Priestess Prayerbook. Trained in the folklore of religion at the University of Pennsylvania, Taya served a rabbi of a Washington, DC area Jewish congregation for over a decade before being named their Spiritual Leader Emeritus. Taya is a practitioner of Somatic Experiencing, a body-awareness-based trauma-healing modality, and mentors resonant students in sacred arts, spiritual leadership and embodied presence.
