Making an informed decision on how to fund your education is an important step in laying the foundation for a meaningful graduate school experience and future. Starr King offers students the opportunity to obtain a graduate degree in an academically challenging and diverse community. Federal Financial Aid and Scholarship options are available to our students who qualify. Our Scholarship Committee considers the financial need of each applicant as well as the school’s commitment to educating to counter oppressions and our desire to manifest a just, multiracial, multicultural learning community. You can learn more about Financial Aid and Scholarships at www.sksm.edu/scholarships.
Our goal is to provide students with a highly relevant theological education rooted in the Unitarian Universalist values. Starr King is a school with “permeable walls” offering students the options of online, residential, and immersion learning. Our programs are open to students of every faith and include a Master of Divinity, a Master of Arts in Social Change, the Joint Program for Interfaith Chaplaincy or Spiritual Direction, a Certificate in Multi-religious Studies, and a Certificate in Unitarian Universalist Studies. Our programs prepare students to serve our communities and the world in the unique ways in which they are called, whether it be as minsters, religious leaders, social justice activists, artists, chaplains, educators, or lay leaders of all kinds. Learn more about our degree programs at www.sksm.edu/degrees.
Each person’s spiritual path is unique, and at Starr King each student’s course of study is individually designed. Students work with a faculty advisor who guides their learning process within a counter-oppressive and multi-religious framework. Students can attend as high or low residency students, full-time or part-time, or attend as a non-degree student and take individual courses. Our student-focused educational model is designed to equip students to answer their unique calls to religious leadership. Learn more about our course offerings at www.sksm.edu/courses.
Doing the work to create a better and more just world is essential to the call of religious leadership, particularly during these critical times. As a progressive theological school, we have made Educating to Counter Oppressions and Creating Just and Sustainable Communities (ECO) central to our work. We seek to advance liberation, healing, and the establishment of a just and sustainable society by enabling people to gain the knowledge, experience, skill, and religious understanding they need to address intersecting forms of violence and oppression in communities around the world. We invite you to further explore how our educational philosophy and model prepares our students for the work they are called to do.
