“When the stakes are so high that they are measured in human lives, what can art do? What can theatre do? Answer: so much more than we believe or even imagine. Contemporary Ukrainian plays, written right before and during the war are excellent examples of artistic action, reaction, input and practice during troubled times.
During the course Theatre – No Fear: Eastern European Contemporary Plays in Wartime, we will closely examine theatrical texts, their context and artistic embedding. The course will finish with a public reading for the academic and local community. Reading in public is on voluntary basis. No theatre experience required. For MASC and MDiv students.
This 1.5 units synchronous course will take place at the Oakland office and on Zoom. It will start on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, 1-4 pm PT and will meet weekly until March 11.

This course can be taken for full credit or for a community fee of $300. People opting for the community fee will be full participants but will not receive academic credits.
