The James River, at the heart of Richmond, Virginia, moves through history and carries within its shape and mud the legacy of colonialism, indigenous genocide, and the transatlantic slave trade. And yet every day it is different, every moment, it is a different river. This series of work asks what lessons the river has to teach us about time, about repair, about legacy, care, power, and more. “Perfect Day” focuses on one small space on the banks of this waterway on a blue sky sunny day and on the constant availability of transformation. In every moment, in every location, there is opportunity for transformation and for finding new sight, alive to spirit.
