Invitation to Learn with Fulbright Scholar

We’re thrilled to welcome Fulbright Scholar, theatre director, and associate professor Dr. Éva Patkó as adjunct faculty this fall teaching Towards (A Theatre Of) Empowerment.

Towards (A Theatre Of) Empowerment is a synchronous course aimed at opening ways of recognizing power structures within artistic creation and the functioning of the artistic outcome. In all cases, these structures mirror societal mechanisms that are often hidden and embedded in our daily lives.

Looking at them through a performative perspective, these power mechanisms can be recognized and analyzed. Together, students will find ways to deconstruct the power structures. This process will lead to what we will define as Theatre of Empowerment.

Students are welcome to take the class online or in-person in Oakland. In addition to meeting each Monday evening, the course includes two field trips which can be completed within your own communities or with Dr. Patkó in the Bay Area.

Plus, we’re offering Towards (A Theatre Of) Empowerment for a reduced community fee of $300 in honor of the 20th anniversary of our Master of Arts in Social Change (MASC) program! Launched in 2005, MASC was one of the first of its kind in the world. It’s a professional, graduate degree program that prepares students to become transformative leaders and spiritually grounded agents of sacred social change.

Classes start September 2. Spots are limited – register now.
