Women’s History: Conversations with SKSM Faculty

Dear beloved community,

This month’s President’s Porch is dedicated to honoring Women’s History Month—or, as many of us lovingly call it, Women’s Herstory Month—a time set apart to recognize, celebrate, and reflect upon the countless ways women have shaped our shared past, present, and future. It is a season of gratitude and remembrance, but also one of renewed commitment to uplifting the voices, stories, and leadership of women in every sphere of life.

I have the distinct honor and privilege of engaging in a series of rich and meaningful conversations with several of our esteemed faculty members, as well as with our Chief Academic Officer and Dean of Faculty. Together, we explore the profound and often underrecognized contributions of women to theological education and the broader global community. These dialogues invite us not only to learn from the wisdom and experiences of these remarkable leaders but also to consider how their work continues to shape the way we live out our values at Starr King School for the Ministry.

Through these conversations, we are reminded that women’s contributions are not a footnote in history, but a vital and dynamic force that continues to transform institutions, communities, and lives. From scholarship and ministry to mentorship and advocacy, women have long been at the forefront of meaningful change, often overcoming significant barriers to do so.

It is my hope that this month’s President’s Porch will inspire deeper reflection, spark important conversations, and encourage each of us to more intentionally recognize and celebrate the women who have influenced our own journeys. May we continue to honor their legacy not only in word, but in action—by fostering a community that affirms, supports, and empowers women in all areas of leadership and service.
