Rev. Dr. Sándor (Alexander) Kovács is associate professor at the Protestant Theological Institute (PTI) in Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca) where he teaches Unitarian church history, paleography and history of religion. After his seminary graduation in 1993 he was minister for six years of the Third Unitarian Church of Kolozsvár. He was one of the first Balázs Scholars at Starr King School in 1995-96. Returning home, he continued to minister his congregation and started teaching at the PTI. In 2006 as a “Emily Sharp Scholar” he researched in Oxford and Manchester in the UK. Rev. Sándor Kovács received his PhD in early Unitarian history from Szeged University in Hungary in 2007. His PhD dissertation was on English-Hungarian Unitarian Relations in the 19th Century.
Dr. Kovács authored two books, edited more than seven, and published about 40 articles in prestigious journals. He is the chief editor of the oldest Hungarian Theological Journal entitled Keresztény Magvető (Christian Sower). He is member of several societies and associations. Since 1999 he is the Librarian of the Main Unitarian Library in Kolozsvár.
