All the evidence is suggesting that this crisis is going to continue for a while, perhaps even through the summer, and that the hardest hit non-profits will be those that depend on event fundraising as a significant portion of their budget. This is true for Starr King; events are a significant sources of individual donations. These gifts provide us with the resources necessary to educate a new wave of progressive religious leaders in Unitarian Universalism and many other traditions. Ultimately, this unrestricted support allows us to keep tuition as low as possible for our students, which we view as a justice issue.
Luckily, Starr King has long been a pioneer in distance learning and work-from-home options, so our mission continues. With this global health crisis looming over us, Starr King is a source of pastoral support and hope for the entire Unitarian Universalist community. That’s why we’ve gone to online only classes and we were one of the first in our community of schools to do so.
To ensure Starr King is able to continue our important work by meeting our goals in these uncertain times, please make a donation to SKSM if you find yourself in a position to help. We are counting on your generosity to propel our work forward. We truly can’t do this without you!
As an example of how crucial our work is at Starr King, please take a few moments to watch the story of one of students, Toben Squires. Toben is a UU, training for military chaplaincy. We hope his story shows the transformative and liberating power of an education committed to countering oppressions of all kinds.
