Jon Hurst

Jon Hurst is a scholar-practitioner and certified candidate for ordained ministry as an elder in the Mountain Sky Conference of The United Methodist Church. He currently serves as Lead Pastor of Cameron United Methodist Church in Denver, Colorado, where he leads a progressive, justice-oriented congregation committed to radical hospitality and neighborhood engagement.

Hurst holds a B.A. in journalism from Central State University, an M.Ed. from the University at Buffalo, and an M.Div. from the  Iliff School of Theology, where he also serves as Coordinator of the Congregational Connections program. His interdisciplinary work brings theological education into conversation with community development, social justice ethics, public theology, and the arts, with a particular focus on congregational revitalization, spiritual formation, and the role of art in healing and public witness.

He has over two decades of experience in higher education and faith-based leadership, with previous teaching and administrative positions at New York University, the  University of Georgia, the University at Buffalo, and Wilberforce University. His pedagogical approach blends theological rigor with practical application, equipping students to embody the gospel through liberative, relational, and culturally responsive ministry.

A practicing mixed-media artist, Hurst creates vibrant works layered with color, texture, and movement. His art seeks to transform the pain of human experience into expressions of healing, resilience, and joy.
