The wheel of the year has brought us round once again to the final month in this calendar year. Many of us are brought to our knees in gratitude and some of us are brought to our knees in sorrow. Joy and woe are finely woven. All are invited to Starr King School for the Ministry once monthly Tuesday chapel service. We will gather in person at the Mill’s Chapel and on Zoom. Our service is entitled “WE Honor & Celebrate Who WE Are.”
Please join us as we honor and celebrate holidays and observances that speak to who we are as individuals and calls us to gather in reverence and celebration. Following the service in the Chapel and on Zoom, we will show appreciation to Starr King School for the Ministry staff and faculty. Outside on the Mill’s Chapel grounds we will share refreshments. For those of you who will show up on Zoom, please have at the ready a holiday beverage that you can use to toast to the staff and faculty.
Our December service has a special offering. Rev, Yvonne Schumacher Strejeck, graduate of Starr King, now sings in the Oakland based Threshold Choir. Rev. Yvonne and eight choir members will be in person in the chapel to provide our music during the service. Thank you, Threshold choir. Below are the headshots and bios of the students who have diligently prepared to shepherd the service.
Starr King School for the Ministry is abiding by the most current CDC guidelines for keeping all of us as safe as possible. If you have concerns, please contact Pastor Jacqueline, firstname.lastname@example.org.
In honor of who we are and celebrating those holidays and observances that bring us together, I look forward to being with you the joys and woes of it ALL. May this sacred season offer you opportunities for healing and blessings!

Gregory Cline is entering his final year of classes at Starr King. He has recently completed his first unit of Clinical Pastoral Education and is currently working as Intern Minister for the Throop UU Church in Pasadena and for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Santa Clarita Valley.
Hello, I am a first year student at Starr King School for the Ministry, where I am pursuing a Masters of Divinity. I found my way here after entering spirituality through a fusion of Shipibo medicine work, personal encounter, and Soto Zen monastic practice. More recently, I have taken interest in contemplative Christianity. I hold all of these perspectives as frameworks that guide me toward healing and countering injustice. I am new to the Bay Area, where I live with my partner, Travis, who is also a student at SKSM.
I am in my first term at Starr King. While I haven’t decided on my specific career path, I am looking forward to the journey. I enjoy writing, especially short stories. I am also an avid video gamer, and spent 9 years testing games. My favorite movie genre is horror. I have been a video store clerk, a hot dog vendor, and a library assistant. I am a Marine Corps veteran and served from 2001 to 2005. I am a member of First Unitarian Church of LA and am proud to be on its board. My cat, Samosa, is the greatest cat in the world.
Yvonne Strejcek is a Starr King grad (MDiv 2008) who is retired from UU parish ministry. In retirement she is now devoted to several forms of spiritual practice and the fostering of beloved community, including the mission of Threshold Choir International. She will lead a contingent from the Diablo Valley Threshold Singers at Starr King’s 12/7/21 chapel service.
