Registration

Please note: The registration procedures on this page are primarily for special students who are NOT enrolled in a degree program at Starr King or other Graduate Theological Union (GTU) school. These registration instructions apply to residential, immersion, intensive, and online courses.

Students enrolled in a degree program at Starr King School (or any other GTU school) should follow the registration processes outlined by their school’s registrar.  Starr King’s registration procedures are explained in the Starr King Student Handbook. Starr King degree program students should not use the Faculty Approval form when requesting classes.

Starr King registration periods are consistent with the Graduate Theological Union registration periods. See the academic calendar for important dates.

Early registration is strongly recommended as many classes have limited enrollment and fill during early registration period.
Steps to Register for a Course

(for students not matriculated in a SKSM or GTU school degree program).

Please also see Timelines for Registration outlined below for each term.

  1. Determine if course requires Faculty Approval to register. Check the course description on the course listing page for notation “Faculty Approval: Yes”.
  2. If Faculty Approval is required, submit a Faculty Approval Request online form which will be sent to the instructor. If Faculty Approval is not required, simply move to step 3.
  3. Fill out and submit a SKSM Course Registration online form.
  4. SKSM Course Registration forms are due to the Registrar and payments are due to the Student Accounts Manager by the last day of the registration period.

Timelines for Registration

Summer 2016 Registration

(Summer courses, August intensives, and Symposium)
Opens April 11-22, 2016

Students may register for a Summer session course during the early registration period of April 11-22, 2016. After this period, summer registration is generally open until the first meeting date of the course. Please note that some courses may require registration prior to the first meeting date of the course. See individual course listings for dates on Summer Course Schedule 2016. Follow the instructions above under Steps to Register.

Fall 2016 Registration

Early Registration for Fall 2016
April 11-22, 2016

  • If Faculty Approval is Required for the course:
    • First week of registration period: student requests Faculty Approval by submitting a Faculty Approval Request online form. This form must be submitted by Friday of the first week of registration.
    • Second week of registration period: On Tuesday by 5 p.m. instructor notifies student whether they are accepted into class. If accepted, the instructor will provide their signature on the Faculty Approval Request form.
  • SKSM Course Registration form, along with the signed Faculty Approval Request form is due to the Registrar, and payment due to the Student Accounts Manager at Starr King School. Please note that by necessity, this policy must remain firm. Entrance into courses occurs only upon receipt and processing of the fully-completed Registration form and payment.

General Registration for Fall 2016
Aug. 22- Sep. 2, 2016

  • If Faculty Approval is Required for the course:
    • First week of registration period: student requests Faculty Approval by submitting a Faculty Approval Request online form. Faculty Approval requests must be submitted by Friday of the first week of registration.
    • Second week of registration period: On Tuesday by 5 p.m. instructor notifies student whether they are accepted into the class. If accepted, the instructor will provide their signature on the Faculty Approval Request form.
  • SKSM Course Registration form, along with the signed Faculty Approval Request form is due to the Registrar, and payment due to the Student Accounts Manager at Starr King School.by the last day of the registration period, in order for students to have access to the course by first day of class. Please note that by necessity, this policy must remain firm. Entrance into courses occurs only upon receipt and processing of the fully-completed Registration form and payment.

Late Registration for Fall 2016
September 3-16, 2016

  • If Faculty Approval is Required for the course:
    • Student should request Faculty Approval by submitting Faculty Approval Request online form as quickly as possible.
    • Professor notifies the student within 48 hours whether they are accepted into class. If accepted, instructor provides their signature which must be entered on the Faculty Approval Request form.
  • SKSM Course Registration form, along with the signed Faculty Approval Request form is due to the Registrar, and payment due to the Student Accounts Manager at Starr King School. Please note that by necessity, this policy must remain firm. Entrance into courses occurs only upon receipt and processing of the fully-completed Registration form and payment.
  • Up to three (3) school (“business”) days are required for registration processing before being granted access to the course.

Intersession (January 2017) Registration

Early registration is strongly advised for Intersession intensive and Spring courses.

Early Registration for Intersession & Spring
November 7-18, 2016

  • If Faculty Approval is Required for the course:
    • First week of registration period: student requests Faculty Approval by submitting a Faculty Approval Request online form. Faculty Approval requests must be submitted by Friday of the first week of registration.
    • Second week of registration period: On Tuesday by 5 p.m. instructor notifies student whether they are accepted into class. If accepted, the instructor will provide their signature on the Faculty Approval Request form.
  • SKSM Course Registration form, along with the signed Faculty Approval Request form is due to the Registrar, and payment due to the Student Accounts Manager at Starr King School. Please note that by necessity, this policy must remain firm. Entrance into courses occurs only upon receipt and processing of the fully-completed Registration form and payment.

General Registration for Intersession begins January 3, 2017 prior to first day of the course. Students registering for Intersession only, who want to be able to register during general registration, please contact SKSM’s Registrar at registrar@sksm.edu who will assist in registering you.

Spring 2017 Registration

Early Registration for Spring 2017
November 7-18, 2016
