Announcing Starr King School Certificate Programs
 Dear Starr King Friends,
As summer begins to round into fall, I am pleased to
announce that Starr King School for the Ministry is launching two new
certificate programs:
The Certificate in Unitarian Universalist Studies, directed by Dr. Susan Ritchie, is ideal for seminarians attending non-UU
schools, enabling them to study the full complement of Unitarian Universalist
topics relevant to ministry and religious leadership and expected by the
Ministerial Fellowship Committee. Students will earn the certificate through selecting six courses from
Starr King's wide array of courses in UU theologies, UU history and polity, UU
social justice priorities, the philosophy and practice of liberal religious
education, global religious traditions, ministry, spiritual practice, and
congregational life.
The Certificate in Multi-Religious Studies, directed by Dr. Ibrahim Farajaje', engages students in exploring the intersections and
interactions among the world's diverse religious traditions, through six
courses. It embodies the Unitarian
Universalist affirmation of religious pluralism and opens a pathway for
students of any faith to broaden their understanding of other religions and
equip themselves for promoting peace and creative interchange among diverse
traditions.

Either certificate can be earned entirely on-line. It is also possible to meet the certificate
requirements through a combination of on-line, residential and short-intensive
courses. The student can choose the
approach that best suits their goals and circumstances.
Certificate students will study with Starr King's
exceptional faculty, distinguished for their scholarly expertise, their wisdom
and experience in ministry and religious leadership, their creative use of
progressive educational approaches, and their passion for education that
counters oppressions, promotes just and sustainable community, and liberates
each person's gifts and capacities.
Interested students may enroll
now (see How to Register) for courses this fall. Registration is open from Aug 23 to Sep 3. Certificate students will pay tuition on a
course-by-course basis. Starr King
M.Div. and M.A.S.C. students may pursue either certificate as part of their
degree program.
In launching these new certificate programs, Starr King is
opening the doors of progressive/Unitarian Universalist theological education to more
students. We do so in devotion to our
mission to educate people for Unitarian Universalist ministry and for
progressive religious leadership in society grounded in the values of
countering oppressions, creating just and sustainable community, and
cultivating multi-religious life and learning.
