Lettini was born in Torino, Italy. Persecuted as "heretical," the Waldensians joined the Reformation in 1532. Lettini has served Waldensian and Methodist churches in Italy as well as Jan Hus Presbyterian Church in New York City.
Before coming to Starr King, she taught at Union Theological Seminary as a visiting Assistant Professor of Theology and Culture. She serves as vice-president of the American Waldensian Society and is a member of the North Atlantic chapter of the European Society of Women in Theological Research.
Lettini is the author of "Omosessualita" ("Homosexuality"), published in 1999. Her dissertation, "The 'Allergy' to the Other," focused on contemporary theological perspectives on "otherness" and hegemonic patterns of identity construction.
Lettini has published book chapters and articles on syncretism, theology and culture(s), U.S. and global liberation theologies, feminist and womanist theologies and liturgies, women and religion, movies and religion, religion and politics, ethics, religious traditions and the "other."
Her current work explores different models of identity and their implications for theology and ethics in a search for just and fair ways of being with others. Lettini also continues her research on films as a source of theological reflection.
