A Message for Prospective Students

Do you feel called to make a difference in the world?

Have you been longing for time to think more deeply about life and engage more effectively in responding to injustices and suffering?

Has your heart been moved by your participation in a religious community, and have you found yourself considering the ministry?

Have you made a commitment to Unitarian Universalism and want your life's work to embody your religious values?

Greetings. I'm Becky Leyser, Dean of Students.

We welcome your interest in studying with us. At Starr King we place radical trust in the possibilities that lie within human beings. As a Unitarian Universalist seminary with a hundred-year liberal and liberating tradition, we approach education as an engaged, relational practice through which human beings develop their gifts and deepen their calling to be of service in the world.

Because of our mission and identity as a Unitarian Universalist school, we're open to students with a variety of religious backgrounds, interests and identities. The majority of Starr King graduates become Unitarian Universalist parish ministers. Some specialize in religious education or community ministries. Others offer religious leadership to society as lay people working in education, social services, the arts, politics, health care and more.

This Web site will help you imagine the path you can follow by studying with us.

At Academics you can learn more about Starr King School's educational environment and the degree program that's right for you. Finding the particular form of religious leadership that suits your gifts, strengths, passions and personality takes time and attention, and is part of our educational process. Choosing the degree program best suited to your vocational aim is an important first step, and Starr King's admissions staff can assist you. It's possible to begin SKSM in one program and transfer to another as you discern your vocation.
